The Accessability Committee

NO VOLUNTEERS SO FAR except Sharron Anderson / ALL KEY RESULTS HAVE A "NOT YET STARTED" STATUS.
(Intent to ask
: Adam Roberts, Sharon Ploeger, Taylor Flanigan, Celia Hughes...)

The Accessibility Committee helps provide access to productions for adult Austinites who are without it by connecting individuals and organizations with theatres that offer comps. This committee also keeps ATX Theatre (and its affiliates) aware of best practices for maximum inclusivity, and encourages compliance industry-wide.

Key Results:

    • We collaborate with Communications to create a system by which affiliate companies can offer advance comps and last-minute comps.

    • We get to know groups and/or individuals who cannot otherwise attend theatre.

      • Ideas: Austin Allies, various nonprofits, Jeremiah House, Survive2Thrive, senior centers, veterans, community centers…

      • Industry colleagues

      • Teachers (collaborate with Youngsters)

    • We connect disenfranchised individuals or groups with affiliate companies offering comps.

    • Someday/maybe: lay the groundwork for ½ price tickets online… ATX TKTS?

    • We keep up on best practices & appropriate terminology for optimal accessibility and inclusivity of theatre-going & communications -- and share them with affiliates and with ATX Theatre Communications Committee. (For deaf, blind, physically disabled, neuro-diverse, unhoused, elderly, children, different languages, etc…)
